A criminal case on public calls for activities directed against the security of the state was brought against the creator of the animated series “Masyanya” Oleg Kuvaev. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg.
“We confirm the fact that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” said a representative of the press service. The maximum punishment under this article is imprisonment for a term of five to seven years with a fine of 500 thousand to 2.5 million rubles.
A source in law enforcement agencies clarified that the person involved was the author of cartoons about Masyanya, Oleg Kuvaev. At the same time, the cartoonist himself, who is currently not in Russia, stated that he had not received confirmation of the case opened against him.
According to the Telegram channel “Mash on the Moika”, the case against Kuvaev was opened because of a video on YouTube in which the main character Masyanya calls on Russian soldiers to surrender using a website created with the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Oleg Kuvaev is a Russian, German and Israeli animator, screenwriter, director, owner of the Masyanya Kuvaeva YouTube channel, best known as the creator of the flash series “Masyanya”, “BO Shop!”
