In an ideal Ecuador, the installation of a new National Assembly should feel like an opportunity. Yes, an opportunity, one of those that comes our way and we know that if we don’t take advantage of it, we will make a very serious mistake. It should also be experienced as that moment after a fall, when you have already stood up, shaken off the dust, healed your wounds, and you are smiling and longing to start again, because you already know which way to go.
In an ideal Ecuador, the arrival of a new government should mean hope for a better future, for a solution to some of the problems we have as a society. A government that plays for the people, that spends its political capital on a bet that is capable of convincing not only its voters, but also those who voted for that name, because they thought they had no other options.
What perspective awaits the citizens with the victory of Daniel Noboa? That’s what our columnists say
In an ideal Ecuador, citizens should be willing to participate in political activities, not only when they vote, but all the time, to get involved, discuss, dialogue and educate their families in politics and ethics, so that by example and word, cooperate in saving from the value crisis we are going through.
In an ideal country, it would be understood that everyone rowed in one direction, with clear north, and this would not even have to be said.
However, this is not an ideal country. It is a suffering country, of citizens tired of hiding in their homes, real cells because of the bars they have put up everywhere; exhausted because they cannot work or walk the streets in peace, much less earn enough to feed their families; the fear of not being able to aspire to a pension or a dignified old age; it is sad that we have children and young people under the stress of violence and cornered by the dangers of drugs.
We are talking about a country in which, for a long time, it has been necessary to demand that, for example, the protagonists of the information in recent weeks (starting from the Constitutional Court, through the Council for Participation, the State Electoral Council and the judges of the State Electoral Council) to be responsible for their omissions, for their recklessness, for their mistakes, which contribute to the weakening of institutionality. It is a country that is preparing to see what the reactions of criminal organizations will be to the election results and which the state will have to face, giving a clear direction. And, in the middle of it, to have political operators (to cite just one case) who are capable of trying to combine irreconcilable positions, the product of the arrogance of a person, who calls himself a leader, who has political power and has helped, together with his partners from various political parties, put the country in its current difficult situation.
Will we ever be able to develop that ability to understand each other, to dialogue, to heal deep exclusions, of all kinds? There is no simple answer to that question, but it already requires a lot of work, effort, dedication, courage, commitment and any other values we can think of. (OR)
