On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had telephone conversations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdelfattah Sisi, the Kremlin press service reports.
During all conversations, the main attention was paid to the sharply escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict. “There was a unanimous opinion on the need for an early ceasefire and the establishment of a humanitarian truce in order to urgently provide assistance to all those in need,” the statement said.
It also notes “serious concern about the likelihood of the conflict escalating into a regional war.”
“The Russian side’s commitment to coordinating efforts with all constructively minded partners was confirmed in order to stop hostilities as soon as possible and stabilize the situation. This is precisely the purpose of the draft resolution submitted by Russia to the UN Security Council on declaring an immediate humanitarian truce, which is balanced and non-politicized,” the press service reports.
The Kremlin emphasizes that the parties agreed that the reason for the current escalation is “the long-term stagnation in the Middle East settlement process.”
