The mayor of Tulun in the Irkutsk region was detained on suspicion of fraud during the relocation of people from emergency housing, TASS reports with reference to the regional Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
“In the Irkutsk region, investigators from the Investigative Committee detained the mayor of Tulun, suspected of fraud. The Second Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Irkutsk Region continues to investigate a criminal case of fraud in the relocation of citizens from emergency housing. According to investigators, in 2019, the mayor of Tulun, together with subordinate employees of the municipal administration, developed and subsequently implemented a criminal scheme to illegally move people into emergency housing and their subsequent resettlement as those in need of relocation,” the report says.
According to the investigation, five more defendants have also been charged with fraud, including the former chairman of the municipal property management committee of the Tulun administration.
In early October, the mayor of Tulun, Yuri Karikh, was summoned for questioning as part of a criminal case initiated regarding the resettlement of people from dilapidated and dilapidated housing, as well as the resettlement of citizens from flooded areas. Karikh himself stated that he was not detained and was working as before.
