Putin named a condition for ending the conflict in Ukraine

Russia agrees to peacefully end the conflict in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this in an interview with the Chinese media corporation, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the leader of the Russian Federation, Moscow has never been against such a development of events, but this requires Kyiv’s willingness to comply with the security guarantees of the Russian Federation.

“How and what needs to be done to ensure that this conflict is ended by peaceful means: and we have never objected to this, moreover, we even agreed in Istanbul at one time that we are ready for this while ensuring Russia’s legitimate interests in security sphere,” he noted, recalling that as soon as Russian troops withdrew from Kiev, the Ukrainian side “threw the agreements into the oven”, declaring that it would “seek the defeat of Russia and victory on the battlefield, the strategic defeat of Russia.”

Putin added that over the past years Russia has done everything to peacefully resolve the conflict, but in Kyiv they even adopted a decree banning negotiations with the Russian Federation.

“If the Ukrainian side wants this (peaceful settlement – ed.), apparently, we need to start by canceling this decree and announcing readiness for these negotiations. We are ready, including using the proposals of our Chinese friends,” Putin emphasized.

He called China’s proposals for a peace settlement “quite realistic” and noted that they could be the basis for peace agreements.

Putin also emphasized that “Russia’s military operation in Ukraine is an attempt to end the war that has been going on since 2014.” “The escalation has reached a new level. So the start of a special military operation by Russia is not the beginning of a war, it is an attempt to stop it,” Putin said.

Let us recall that in February China presented a plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, which consists of 12 points, one of them was the lifting of unilateral sanctions. However, Beijing’s initiative was criticized by Ukraine and the United States.
