The Ukrainian football club Shakhtar confirmed to UA-Football that youth team player Alexander Rosputko disappeared after the away match of the UEFA Youth League against the Belgian Antwerp, RBC reports.
“We confirm the fact that Alexander Rosputko did not return to Ukraine after the match with Antwerp. The player received a boarding pass, checked in his suitcase and did not show up to board the plane,” Shakhtar said. At the same time, the club was unable to refute or confirm the information about the footballer’s departure to Russia. “We cannot say in which direction the player disappeared. We have no information,” the club added.
The club’s press service expressed hope that the player will return to Shakhtar in the near future.
The club also claims that there were no prerequisites for such an act on the part of the football player. “If the prerequisites [к бегству] were, the player would have stayed in Ukraine and would not have gone to the match. Now he is not in touch,” they concluded.
The game took place on October 4, but the Ukrainian media reported the missing player only on October 13. It was noted that 19-year-old Rosputko and his team checked in and checked in their luggage for the flight to Warsaw, after which they disappeared at the airport, turning off their phone. According to one version, he left for Russia.
