Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the strengthening of economic ties between Russia and other CIS countries in the context of sanctions. The Russian leader stated this while speaking at a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in a narrow format.
According to him, “our economic ties within the CIS are consistently expanding,” despite Western threats. Putin noted that we are talking about “unprecedented sanctions pressure from Western states, their threats to apply so-called sanctions against those who continue to work in bilateral formats with Russia and Belarus.”
According to the Russian president, some countries “are included, although they do not work in the format” of the CIS. “At the same time, the Commonwealth remains a reliable and, of course, popular and effective format of cooperation, within which the participating states build relations exclusively on the principles of partnership, mutual benefit and consideration of each other’s interests,” Putin said.
He also spoke about the pressure exerted on all Russia’s partners. “They are trying to suppress, if not to say, scare, intimidate, command someone,” Putin emphasized, adding that the leaders of the CIS countries are guided precisely by national interests in their work.
Earlier it was reported that Putin assessed the energy situation in the EU with the saying “Don’t dig someone else’s hole – you’ll fall into it yourself.”
