The US Congress urged to prepare for possible simultaneous conflicts with Russia and China

The United States needs to strengthen its alliances and expand nuclear and conventional weapons modernization programs to prepare for potential simultaneous conflicts with Russia and China. This is stated in the report of a commission under the US Congress dealing with issues of the American strategic concept.

The commission includes former officials from the State Department, the Pentagon and the National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy. The authors of the report explained that they published it against the backdrop of “concerning” behavior by Russia and China in recent years.

“The goals of American strategy must include effectively deterring and defeating simultaneous Russian and Chinese aggression in Europe and Asia using conventional weapons,” the commission members noted. The document states that “American strategy must be changed towards strengthening the role of nuclear weapons.”

Experts also recommend that the Pentagon “increase the construction of ships with nuclear power plants,” in particular nuclear submarines.

In addition, Washington was urged to “take into account the possibility that Iran will have nuclear weapons in the period 2027–2035.”

Earlier it was reported that the White House ruled out the participation of the US military in rescuing hostages from Israel.
