On October 11, at the State Sports Museum, a meeting was held with an international master of sports, winner of the European Relay Triathlon Championship, Russian champion in standard, middle and long distance triathlon in 2023, Yulia Golofeeva.
Now Yulia is 26 years old, since 2020 she has been competing in the main team of the Russian national team in the elite category. And this year she became the champion of Russia in three distances at once. At the same time, Julia noted that she started playing sports professionally quite late. For example, she started swimming at the age of 14 – at this age some people already become masters of the sport.
More than 70 students from Moscow sports schools came to meet the Russian champion. Yulia told them about her path into the world of triathlon, about the peculiarities of an athlete’s life, shared techniques for improving sportsmanship and plans for the future, and also answered questions. The athlete emphasized the importance of following the regime and told what helps her win: “It’s incredibly nice when people recognize you on the track. People help, their support is very important!” Answering a question about prizes and gifts at competitions, Yulia Golofeeva noted that it is important to love what you do: “Triathlon brings me pleasure. And like any professional athlete, the main thing for me is the title. Gifts are secondary. The title is a source of pride for me.”
In addition, Yulia Golofeeva donated to the State Sports Museum the starting suit and jersey of a member of the USSR triathlon team in the late 80s, as well as two books – the first publication in Russia about triathlon (1992) and the book “Triathlon. History” (2022). These are the first exhibits in the museum representing triathlon.
After the meeting, everyone was able to get an autograph and take a photo with the Russian champion.
