There is a shortage of employees in the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. This was announced by the head of the department’s financial and economic department, Irina Kalbfleisch, at a meeting of the State Duma committee when considering the budget for 2024.
According to her, the shortage is 100 thousand employees, mainly police combat units. According to her, the level of pay in the department is “uncompetitive.”
“The level of pay and wages in our department, to put it mildly, is not only uncompetitive, it’s even difficult to talk about,” Kalbfleisch said. According to her, there is a shortage of employees from 700 thousand to 100 thousand, as quoted by Kommersant.
Kalbfleisch added that “the issue of having a police officer on the street is very pressing and urgent.” At the same time, the budget for 2024 does not include a planned indexation of police salaries at the legislative level, and this does not allow “satisfying all the financial needs” of the department.
Earlier, in August, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, also noted the presence of a shortage of personnel in the department, calling it “critical.” According to him, five thousand employees quit the internal affairs bodies in one month.
