In Bulgaria, 12 people were detained, including three Russians, in connection with the illegal supply of dual-use goods and technologies to Russia, 24 Hours reports, citing the chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, Zhivko Kotsev. This includes optical sights, binoculars and aviation radios.
The State Agency for National Security (DANS) of Bulgaria received information about the export of dual-use goods, after which a complex network of illegal supplies was uncovered, the head of the agency, Plamen Tonchev, said at a press conference.
According to him, the network has operated in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Veliko Tarnovo since the beginning of 2021. It was led by Russian citizens who financed the supplies, Tonchev said. Their names are not mentioned, RBC notes.
Deliveries were carried out with the help of different companies, one of which has its headquarters in Plovdiv. Goods arrived in this city, were repackaged, and then transported to Sofia, and from there to Russia, he said. The total turnover of operations amounted to 4 million Bulgarian leva (about 2 million euros or about 121 million rubles).
Among the goods that were illegally supplied to Russia, according to Tonchev, were optical sights, binoculars and aviation radios. According to the head of DANS, the products were probably intended not for the Russian army, but for special forces participating in the military operation in Ukraine, as well as for formations “like the Wagner PMC.”
As part of the investigation, law enforcement agencies conducted searches at several addresses, dual-use goods were seized before their export to Russia, as well as computers and accounting documents, writes 24 Hours.
