Iraqi Prime Minister: Escalation of conflict leads to destruction of Gaza Strip

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani called the worsening of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict a dangerous escalation that leads to the destruction of the Gaza Strip, and blamed Israel and the “international community” for it, Interfax reports.

“There are complex and dangerous developments in Palestine right now. This is a natural result of the fact that Israel continued to commit violations against the rights of Palestinians, the international community remained silent, and failed to fulfill its obligations under internationally recognized resolutions,” he said at the beginning of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

“We are now witnessing another intifada of Palestinian uprising demanding an end to violations of their rights. An obvious escalation, a very dangerous escalation, as a result of which civilians are killed and spontaneous bombings are carried out, including on civilian targets. All this leads to the destruction of the Gaza Strip,” he emphasized.

According to al-Sudani, Arab and Islamic countries, as well as major powers, have a “moral responsibility” to “stop these violations of the rights of Palestinians, to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip.”

The Iraqi premier added that his visit “aims to discuss these issues: to discuss our common positions and strengthen our bilateral relations.” “We also want to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the region, to establishing stability and security in the Middle East and throughout the world,” he said.
