The leaders of three CIS countries – Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan – launched the start of Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan. The ceremony with the participation of President Vladimir Putin, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev took place in Ogarevo near Moscow, Interfax reports.
“This is the largest trilateral energy project, for the implementation of which the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline, built back in the 60s, is used,” Putin noted during a press conference. According to the president, the gas pipeline is now starting to operate in reverse and will supply the growing economy of Uzbekistan and partly Kazakhstan.
“Kazakhstan is interested in the full use of its transit potential and is ready to further increase the transportation of Russian gas,” Tokayev added. And the leader of Uzbekistan noted that the republic is ready to develop long-term partnership in this area.
Let us recall that earlier it was proposed to organize a dedicated combined route for the reverse transportation of Russian gas through the territory of Kazakhstan along the Central Asia – Center – IV and Central Asia – Center – V main gas pipelines. Gazprom formed and signed road maps with the government of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, concluded agreements, and carried out technical re-equipment of the gas metering station. Uzbekistan also built a new gas measuring station (GIS) “Karakalpakiya” on the border with Kazakhstan, as well as a new section of the Bukhara-Ural gas pipeline.
