Poland blocked the decision to resettle migrants across Europe at the EU summit

Poland blocked the adoption of a decision on the resettlement of illegal migrants throughout Europe at the informal EU summit in Granada, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the final press conference.

According to him, the Polish government, led by the Law and Justice Party, is “the only guarantor of curbing the wave of illegal migration that the EU wants to spread throughout Europe.”

“I decided to veto the part concerning migration,” Morawiecki said, adding that the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, accepted this position. “The point regarding migration [в итоговых документах] no,” said the head of the Polish government. “This agreement has just been reached,” he added. “If it weren’t for our veto, then after this summit the process of relocation of illegal migrants would begin. It was solely the veto of the Polish government, my veto, that led to the fact that the process did not begin. Poland can counteract the erroneous decisions of the European Commission,” Morawiecki said.

The Polish prime minister proposed more carefully protecting the EU borders, including at sea, and also canceling social support for illegal immigrants arriving in Europe. According to him, such support in some Western European countries only attracts new migrants, TASS reports.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that his country would take an uncompromising position on illegal migration and would not support the plan imposed by the EU leadership to resettle refugees and migrants in the community countries.
