The mayor of the regional center, Sergei Nadsadin, announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk urban district in connection with the typhoon. He reported this on his Telegram channel.

In seven southern regions of Sakhalin and off the southeastern coast of the island, an emergency warning due to bad weather is already in effect, announced by rescuers. According to weather forecasters, rain in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk will last until the evening.

Nadsadin said that at the headquarters meeting he demanded round-the-clock monitoring of the situation in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. According to him, people began to complain about the flooding of their houses, now there are more than 20 such complaints. “I demanded that teams be organized and go to all the addresses that people report, this is necessary in order to provide support and assistance to those who need it,” – wrote the head of the city.

In turn, the governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko cited data that due to the rampant disaster, six apartment buildings and more than 500 private houses, where 2,602 people live, were left without electricity. First shift classes have been canceled in all schools in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Korsakovsky, Dolinsky districts and the village of Trotsikoye, Aniva district.

Meanwhile, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport is still operating as normal.
