The Spanish authorities have not made decisions on banning the entry of cars from Russia, Izvestia reports, citing Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom Yuri Istomin.
“As far as we know, at the moment Spain has not introduced a ban on the entry of vehicles with Russian license plates,” the diplomat said, expressing hope that the Kingdom will not take this “absurd and odious measure.”
Earlier, the State Agency of the Spanish Tax Service, which oversees customs, explained that it does not intend to confiscate the personal belongings of Russians, including gold jewelry not intended for sale, if they arrived in the state from the territory of one of the European Union countries. As the agency noted, in this case, articles of regulation 833/2014 do not apply. However, if a Russian citizen entering Spain is under sanctions, the situation may change.
It is noteworthy that currently it is impossible to enter the Kingdom from Russia: there are no direct flights between the countries.
Italy adheres to a similar position, which, citing the ability of EU members to independently make decisions on imposing sanctions against Russians contained in the regulations, refused to confiscate the cars and luggage of Russian tourists. The President of the Association of Italian Entrepreneurs in Russia, Vittorio Torrembini, called this practice in a number of European countries a provocation.
Let us note that the other day Bulgaria announced its intention to confiscate cars from Russian citizens entering its territory. Previously, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Finland, the Czech Republic and Latvia announced similar measures. The list also includes Germany, which was the first to use this practice.
