The nutritionist spoke about the healthiest and cheapest vegetable in Russian cuisine

The most useful and affordable vegetable on the Russians’ table is beets, said nutritionist Ksenia Boroda.

This vegetable contains betanin, betaine, potassium and calcium salts, iodine and fiber – elements that are important for human health. At the same time, beets cost an average of 34 rubles per kilogram and are available to everyone, RIA Novosti notes.

The specialist emphasized that regular consumption of beets can improve the condition of the capillaries, strengthen the walls of blood vessels, lower blood pressure and normalize the stool. In addition, betaine, which is part of raw beets, helps to fight osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, heart pathologies, anemia, mastopathy, and thrombophlebitis. And the pigment betacyanin, which gives beets their characteristic dark red color, is a powerful antioxidant.

At the same time, the nutritionist noted that frequent consumption of beets can harm people with gastrointestinal diseases and diabetes.
