British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a plan to create a “non-smokers” in the country by introducing and extending a ban on the sale of cigarettes to young people. A message about this was published by the press service of the British government.
The corresponding bill implies a complete ban on the sale of cigarettes to citizens born after January 1, 2009. It also contains a consistent increase in the age limit until which citizens will not be able to buy cigarettes by one year each year. As a result, by approximately 2040, a total ban on the sale of cigarettes will be achieved, officials plan, and thus a generation will emerge completely free from this addiction.
The bill’s sponsors say gradual restrictions on young people would save thousands of lives and save the NHS money and effort as a result.
The government is also discussing possible restrictions on vapes, including their availability and attractiveness.
Smoking is thought to be responsible for one in four cancer deaths in the UK, costing the UK economy £17 billion each year. The government called smoking “the single biggest cause of preventable deaths.”
