TASS: Leading Advisor to the Department of the Ministry of Defense for Ensuring the State Defense Order was detained in the case of a large bribe

In Moscow, Aleksandr Lopatin, a leading adviser to the department of the RF Ministry of Defense for securing the state defense order, was detained on suspicion of receiving a large bribe. This was reported by TASS with reference to a law enforcement source.

It is clarified that Lopatin was detained by military investigators during operational-search activities, now operational-investigative actions are being carried out with him. Then the investigation will appeal to the court with a petition to elect Lopatin as a preventive measure.

The source says that Lopatin is charged with a crime under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (taking a bribe by an official on an especially large scale). The sanction of the article is up to 15 years in prison with a fine of up to 70 times the amount of the bribe.

The press service of the Basmanny Court of Moscow said that the investigation’s petition to choose arrest for Lopatin had already been received. The court will start considering it shortly.

We will remind, earlier the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, said that in the first nine months of this year, the investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee received 23,634 reports of corruption crimes. Investigators opened 17,563 criminal cases, which is 15% more than in the same period last year. 7 thousand 405 cases were sent to the courts in relation to 8 thousand 175 persons. Most corruption crimes are detected in law enforcement and financial spheres, education and science, healthcare and social security.
