A nutrition specialist said that the problem of obesity in the Russian Federation is worsening

In Russia, most of the population is overweight. This was stated by Russian academician, nutrition specialist Viktor Tutelyan, AiF reports.

“In Russia, the problem of obesity and excess weight among the population has grown very seriously. “We already have 63% of women and about 60% of men are overweight,” the scientist noted and warned that the problem of excess body fat is closely related to susceptibility to dangerous diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular pathologies and even cancer.

Tutelyan named the low food culture of Russians as one of the reasons. “People do not have a high enough culture of eating behavior, lack of knowledge about how to eat properly, choose foods and why it is needed,” the scientists noted. He added that widespread obesity was also being contributed to by the abundance of processed foods available. For example, in sausages beloved by Russians, more than 20% of the composition is saturated fats, which are completely unnecessary for the body, Tutelyan noted.

He also admitted that today even healthy products, due to the nature of their production, do not contain enough important nutrients, vitamins, and microelements. A lack of high-quality protein, minerals and vitamins in the diet has a serious impact on metabolic processes and the appearance of excess fat.
