Adviser to the President of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, David Babayan, decided to surrender to the authorities of Azerbaijan. He himself announced this on social networks.
“I decided to go from Stepanakert to Shushi today. This decision, naturally, will cause severe pain, anxiety and stress, first of all, to my loved ones, but I am sure they will understand,” Babayan wrote, noting that his failure to appear or escape “would cause serious harm to our long-suffering people,” as quoted by Kommersant “
According to Babayan, he is “on the black list of Azerbaijan,” and the republic has demanded his arrival in Baku.
At the same time, the former Minister of State of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Ruben Vardanyan has already been charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. According to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, he was arrested for four months. Vardanyan has been charged with financing terrorism, participating in the creation of armed formations or groups and participating in their activities, as well as illegally crossing the border of Azerbaijan.
Vardanyan was detained by Azerbaijani security forces while trying to enter Armenia on September 27 during a large-scale evacuation from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Let us remind you that earlier today the head of the NKR Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree on the termination of the existence of the republic from January 1, 2024. The decision was preceded by strikes on Karabakh by Azerbaijan, which called it “anti-terrorist measures.”
