How to create a scenario of tax compliance and trust between citizens, companies and institutions responsible for collection was analyzed at an international forum organized by the Tax Administration (SRI) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
An important issue for the development of any society is that those who make it fulfill their duty so that the state can function, and this includes taxes; while those who receive and manage these resources must do so taking into account the economic situation in the country and be transparent and efficient in their use.
At a meeting held in Guayaquil with representatives of several countries, the Cooperative Compliance Program (PCC) and the challenges and opportunities of its implementation in the region were presented. This is based on mutual trust between taxpayers and tax subjects. To do this, we need to change the vision of the fear of tax persecution so that the population can feel that the tax vision is a strategic ally.
It is necessary to have a proper tax audit for correct control, while solving the issue of reducing court cases, improving the business climate and fast and clear services, for which it is also useful for the private sector to have an accurate tax liability.
The region’s tax administrations will participate in a cooperative compliance forum in Guayaquil
However, the goal requires the help of the government at all levels of government so that these resources become works and services that reach the citizens and benefit them.
It is necessary to create trust so that taxpayers see that their contributions are transformed into tangible works for the development of their canton, province and country, and that this money, the result of their work, does not fall into the bottomless bag represented by corruption, which causes the discredit of the state’s institutions. More work needs to be done on this issue in Ecuador. (OR)
