Scientists have learned about organ abnormalities in a third of patients with Covid

Millions of people around the world suffer from post-Covid syndrome. Even after treatment, some symptoms persist, including shortness of breath, fatigue and brain fog, say scientists quoted by the portal UfacityNews.ru.

Moreover, post-Covid syndrome changes many organs, warn scientists from Oxford University. Thus, the journal The Lancet Respiratory Medicine published a report on the results of a study of specialists who analyzed the results of magnetic resonance imaging of several organs – the brain, heart, liver, kidneys and lungs – after hospitalization with COVID-19. Experts compared MRI images of people with coronavirus infection with those who have never had the virus.

It turned out that almost a third of patients with Covid had abnormalities in more than one organ on average five months after discharge from the hospital. Thus, lung anomalies were observed 14 times more often and brain anomalies were three times more often. The latter included higher rates of white matter lesions, which were associated with mild cognitive decline. Changes observed in the lungs included scarring and signs of inflammation.
