The incident in the Canadian Parliament, where a Ukrainian SS veteran was honored, is an outrageous “sloppy attitude towards the memory” of Nazi crimes in Canada. This statement was made by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“The memory must be preserved in relation to the Nazis, no matter how old they were. There is no expiration date or statute of limitations for these crimes. Such sloppiness of memory is outrageous,” said a Kremlin representative, as quoted by Kommersant.
According to him, Western countries have raised a generation “that does not know who fought with whom and what happened during the Second World War.” “This is fraught with the fact that fascism will manifest itself here and there,” Peskov emphasized.
Let us recall that the day before the leader of Ukraine spoke in the Canadian parliament, after which Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota asked those present to welcome the Ukrainian veteran, whom he himself invited to the meeting. He was greeted with a standing ovation. A little later, the speaker had to apologize for his action – he explained that he did not know that the Ukrainian veteran fought on the side of the SS Galicia division, which fought against the Red Army. The division participated in war crimes against Jews, Poles, Belarusians and Slovaks. Read more here.
