This Saturday, the name day of the Republic of Ecuador was celebrated, that is, the name of the country was celebrated, just as individuals do with our “saint”. And in this case, this holiday coincides with the birthday of the Republic, because on September 23, 1830, the founding congress of the State of Ecuador adopted the constitution that gave legal life to what was then called the State of Ecuador: it was not by whim or coincidence that that day was chosen for the performance of such a transcendental act, since the vernal equinox occurs, which from an astronomical and astrological point of view is the day of the equator, with the sun placed above that geographical reality which gives its name to this community of peoples.. I do not know whether the voters of Riobamba or any of them fell thought to ask someone who understands astrology to create an “astral map” of the newly formed nation. If this had happened, would the astrological document have predicted situations such as the breakup of Ecuador into four governments that occurred only 26 years later, or the bloody civil war of 1912, or the period of ungovernability in the 1930s that ended in defeat in 1941, or the dictatorship that dominated almost the entire decade of the 21st century? These and other incidents which may be adduced, if foreseen by an astroman, would have caused at least the date of foundation to be questioned.

It’s not a trivial question, let’s just consider that our shield is crossed by a strip that has four signs of the zodiac. They could not satisfactorily explain to me how this quartet was chosen, at school they told us that the most important events in the history of the country took place in the months that coincide with the chosen constellations. But apart from May 24, I can’t find any other decisive or celebrated event in that period. There are none on August 10 and October 9, no less. I heard that they are connected to the Marxist revolution, which “liberated us from the liberators” and started the real republican transition. But it happens that the very day on which this transformation began, March 6, is in the sign of Pisces, which does not appear among the represented ideograms.

I said in a recent article that the generational analysis of people or social groups must be given equal importance to astrological interpretation. It was a hyperbole, an exaggeration, because the human generation is subject to influences that incline it, although they do not determine it. And if this is true for human groups, this tendency is even weaker for individuals. Therefore, while I enjoy the symbolic use of astrology, I do not place any importance on it in my life practice. To do so would be to reject my radical rationalism and my belief in freedom as the supreme human condition. That line of thinking, I also said, makes me excited to be born in the only country whose name is a scientific concept. Therefore, let’s build a harmonious country with reason and our freedom: even, balanced, just… but without ambiguity. (OR)
