Yerevan is engulfed in mass protests – more than 140 people are detained

More than 140 people were detained at protests in Yerevan. Interfax reports this with reference to the republic’s police.

To date, the number of detainees has reached 142 people, law enforcement officials said.

It is noted that the Armenian opposition began blocking streets in six of the nine administrative districts of Yerevan in the morning. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. A number of actions are led by former and current opposition deputies of the Armenian parliament.

It is clarified that among those detained is Armenian parliament member Tadevos Avetsyan. The ex-president of the country, Robert Kocharyan, Levon, was also arrested. His lawyer Alexander Kochubaev clarified on social networks that the Investigative Committee of Armenia accused Levon, who was injured by police during the protests on September 22, of beating four security forces. At the same time, he himself was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury.

It should be noted that opposition protests demanding Pashinyan’s resignation began on September 19, after the start of the “anti-terrorist operation” of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. A national committee has been created that coordinates actions to remove Pashinyan and his government from power.
