On store shelves you can find containers with eggs with shells of different colors – white, milk, beige, orange and even brown. There is an opinion that brown eggs are fresher than white ones, and the latter are specially bleached with chemicals, but this is not true, says nutritionist, MSc Crystal Scott, writes Doctorpiter.
The expert recalls that eggs differ in color for only one reason: they are laid by different breeds of chickens. In terms of their nutritional values, eggs with different shells are absolutely the same – they all contain vitamins, protein and other minerals. However, the reason brown eggs are sometimes more expensive than white eggs is that breeds of chickens that lay brown eggs tend to be larger and require more food, space and care than breeds that lay white eggs, the specialist adds.
According to him, the nutritional value of eggs is largely determined by the diet and living conditions of the chickens, so it is important to choose products that come from healthy and well-groomed birds. When choosing eggs, it is important to carefully study the packaging, which should include expiration dates, production date, and also the name of the place where they are produced. It is better to buy a product whose manufacturer is geographically closer.
