The castle of the knights of the Teutonic Order of Waldau in the Kaliningrad region was protected from fire. This is reported by “KP” with reference to the words of the tenant of the castle Nadezhda Sorokina.
On the morning of November 9, it became known about a fire on the territory of the castle complex in the village of Nizovye near Kaliningrad. The fire spread to an abandoned warehouse that has not been used for a long time and has no historical value.
The fire was localized at about 10 am, four fire brigades continue to work on the spot. The causes of the fire are being established, but it is known that no one was hurt.
Waldau Castle was founded by the knights of the Teutonic Order, who then claimed dominion over the entire Baltic region, in the 13th century. It has the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance. In 2007, the building was declared emergency due to the threat of a collapse of the roof, which led to its closure. The left wing remained operational; a local history museum works in it.
