Municipalities and Provincial Government of Tungurahua coordinate works to face road damage due to rain

Baños, Patate, Pelileo and Píllaro have declared an emergency due to the storm that affects rural roads.

For a few weeks, the heavy rains have caused damage to the rural roads of Tungurahua, mainly in the Baños, Patate, Pelileo and Píllaro cantons, where the coordinated work of the machinery of the provincial government and the municipalities is carried out.

Eduardo Bayas, director of Roads and Constructions of the Provincial Government of Tungurahua, commented that in recent weeks in Píllaro heavy rains were registered, before which inspections were carried out with the technicians. It was evidenced that there are highly affected areas, such as El Censo, in the San José de Poaló parish, with damage to both the gutters and the road; also, in which it leads from Huapante Grande to the Salcedo canton, Cotopaxi province.

He pointed out that in addition to working with machinery from the Municipality of Píllaro and the provincial government, since rural roads are the direct responsibility of the institution of Tungurahua, in both sectors of the canton the execution of road improvement works, such as construction, will be contracted. of retaining walls, reconstruction of certain sections of concrete ditches and replacement of asphalt mix in certain sectors.

Bayas assured that the contracts for the works on the highway will be around $ 50,000, but that apart it will be by direct administration by the road team of the two institutions, with which the entire investment will be approximately $ 100,000, and it is hoped that the hiring is ready in two weeks.

In addition to the heavy rains, the damage to the roads occurs because they have not been intervened in a long time and the useful life of the asphalt has ended. Therefore, maintenance will be given until there are sufficient resources to allow a global general intervention with resurfacing throughout the road.

Given the effects in the Baños, Pelileo and Patate cantons, there was an emergency declaration that made possible the contracting of works, such as the construction of metal sewers with their respective heads, wing walls, replacement of track tables and machinery was rented that allowed to rehabilitate some roads.

The official indicated that four works were contracted, of which three were completed and one will be completed in the following days, for which an investment of approximately $ 400,000 was had, including the rental of the machinery.

For his part, the mayor of Píllaro, Francisco Yanchatipán, commented that given the serious consequences that the severe storm leaves on the roads of the canton, an emergency was declared in order to have the necessary resources to deal with the damage as a priority.

He highlighted the coordination with the Provincial Government of Tungurahua to help with the machinery in order to solve the damages in the rural areas of the canton. (I)
