One of the most common types of breakfast among Russians is bread and butter. It’s easy and quick, and you immediately feel full, but such a snack has disadvantages, says nutritionist Elena Solomatina, writes Moscow 24.
According to her, such a sandwich is extremely high in calories, but does not bring much benefit. “White bread, apart from empty calories and sugar, carries practically nothing, and butter is quite high in calories and contains cholesterol,” the doctor explained.
She added that white bread and butter is contraindicated for those who have problems with weight, sugar and cholesterol levels, as well as those suffering from atherosclerosis. If it’s difficult to refuse such a morning sandwich, then the doctor advises making it at least a little healthier: it’s better to take whole grain bread, and spread butter on it instead of putting it on it.
Nutritionist Kirill Strelnikov also agrees with Solomatina; he is quoted by Moscow Region Today. The doctor warned that eating bread and butter can undermine your health – this dish sharply increases blood sugar levels. “People with lactose intolerance may also want to give up bread and butter and eat healthier. In addition, bread contains equally dangerous ingredients for allergy sufferers, which can cause not the most pleasant symptoms: itching, skin rash or swelling,” the nutritionist added. Also, according to him, bread and butter can be difficult to digest for those who suffer from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, such as stomach ulcers or chronic gastritis.
