Friday, December 31, will also be a non-recoverable rest day in Ecuador.
December brings the last days off of the year, in this case corresponding to Christmas, one of the most important festivals of Christianity, when the birth of Jesus Christ is commemorated in Bethlehem; as well as the end of the year.
One of these non-recoverable days will be Saturday, December 25, which joins Friday 24 (Christmas Eve) and Sunday 26. In addition, December 31 of this year will be a day of rest in Ecuador, according to what is indicated by the Reform Law to the Organic Law of the Public Service and the Labor Code.
The law indicates that “when the mandatory rest days at the national or local level established in this Law correspond to Saturdays or Sundays, the break will be moved, respectively, to the previous Friday or the following Monday”.
In this way, regular activities will resume on Monday, January 3, 2022. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has not ended and even the medical community is waiting to know how the new omicron variant will unfold.
Tedros Adhanom: There is evidence to suggest that omicron causes less severe symptoms than delta
Anthony Fauci: Almost certainly omicron is not more severe than delta
Apparently so far, this variant, although it is more contagious, would not be more dangerous than the _hegemonic delta throughout the world_; however experts have indicated that it will take a while to know the mechanism of action of omicron in the human body, or if it is resistant to current vaccines.
In the midst of this, several countries have taken steps to try to prevent the spread of omicron. For example, the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro canceled its Christmas festivities. Also, several nations have decided to prevent flights from South Africa _where Omicron was first identified_, as well as from other African nations.
On the Ecuadorian side, the Government ordered that all travelers, nationals and foreigners, who wish to enter Ecuador by air have to present their certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 and an RT-PCR test with a negative result.
In the case of travelers from or who have made a stopover in eight African nations (South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and Namibia), their entry is preventatively restricted.
So far the National COE has not indicated whether special measures will be taken during the days off for Christmas and New Year to avoid crowds on beaches or other tourist sites.
In any case, the country continues with the anticovid immunization campaign. But likewise, the slogan is to maintain physical distancing measures, wash hands or disinfect them with alcohol, in addition to the correct use of the mask. (I)
