“Everything flows, nothing is permanent.” Heraclitus of Ephesus.
The British historian and philosopher Arnold J. Toynbee believed that history is the way forward, whose cycles mean the purification of aspects that hinder the progress of societies at a given moment.
The basic idea of Toynbee’s theory is that civilizations go through a cycle of growth, development, decline, final collapse and transformation. What is relevant to this theory is how challenges and responses to them shape the trajectory of society throughout its history.
Daniel Noboa can be a presidential candidate even though he was born abroad: these are the requirements in the Constitution
From this I asked myself the following question: is Ecuador experiencing a change of cycle in politics? I think so. It seems that everything that smells of confrontation, confrontation, disputes and other characteristic behaviors of current political life is exactly what a good part of citizens, especially the new generations, rejects. We can see this, as the first point, in the relief of the citizens due to the declaration of the so-called death of the crusader. The noise and tension created by the National Assembly overcame the resistance of the Ecuadorians.
The assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio that followed led to citizen fatigue and definitely caused an obvious rebuke to traditional politicians. So the election results reveal that same trend, tipping the scales towards what is new, towards what is moving away from that idea of the old political class.
Daniel Noboa’s result in the first round surprised many. The great novelty of his campaign, if you can call it that, was not focused on his political, social or economic proposals, but on what he really represented to the voters: a new era, away from established political power and politics as always.
This is where Daniel Noboa and Luisa González stand a little more than a month before the second round, according to two surveys of voting intentions
This treatment of the candidate, calmly and without conflict, marked the differences that must remain in force if they are part of his values.
Everything seems to indicate that a new era is coming, in which a number of new actors appear on the political scene, some of whom we have seen in national, legislative and sectional elections, young people, with renewed ideas and a good academic base.
The change is not only generational – which is time – but also an idea and above all a spirit, a different attitude. In order to be able to face the crisis we are experiencing, we need a political environment that allows dialogue, minimal agreements between the political forces in the country and where we speak clearly and directly.
These are the economic proposals of the government plan of candidate Daniel Noboa
Young people are the ones who visibly tipped the scales in the first round of elections and they are the ones who will put an end to the chapter called early elections.
Daniel’s task will be to set himself up as the flag bearer of this new cycle and solidify it on its path. Meanwhile, Luisa will have to decide whether she represents traditional politics or transition for this final cycle. (OR)
