The heads of the NOCs of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania opposed the admission of Russians to tournaments

The heads of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania opposed the admission of Russians to international tournaments. This was reported on the website of the Estonian organization.

“The solutions proposed by the governing bodies of sports are unacceptable for all athletes, since they are faced with an unpleasant choice and an ethical dilemma – whether to compete with athletes from Russia and Belarus or not,” said representatives of the Baltic countries Urmas Syhrumaa, Janis Bux and Daina Gudzineviciute.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.

At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC.
