The 5 ports that receive LPG in Peru will be closed until Thursday

The LPG shortage problems continue to loom over our country. The National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) confirmed that 65 ports remain closed due to the presence of “light to strong waves” that, according to forecasts, They will continue until next Thursday.

According to information shared by the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard (Dicapi) of the Navy, among the closed ports are the PetroperĂș hybrid MU2 and liquid cargo docksin Talara, in addition to the areas North B (SolgĂĄs) and North C (Zeta Gas)in Callao.

To these three are added the PetroperĂș Callao Center Terminaltoday administered by Graña y Montero, and the port of Pampa Melchorita (where Camisea liquids, other than natural gas, are received to convert them into LPG), operated by the company PerĂș LNG, in Pisco.

These are the only 5 ports in Peru that have the capacity to receive LPG. Three in Callao, one in Piura, and another in Ica. The rest of the country is supplied virtually (by tanker truck).

Every time adverse weather events develop in Peru, the ports close and cannot receive or store LPG in their areas. It is presumed that the current waves will still end next Thursday, September 14, if they do not worsen again beforehand.

Under such circumstances, the Pampa Melchorita plant, where 80% of the LPG consumed by Peru is produced (but which is still sold at an international price), receives excess demand by land due to truckers arriving by emergency from Lima.

That’s why the long lines you see on the news. In them, truckers who supply the south of the country (Arequipa, Cusco, etc.) and their colleagues from Lima, who could not reload in Callao due to the waves, meet. Pisco collapses.

Recently, the LPG plant of the New Talara Refinery (NRT)with which PetroperĂș will be able to provide relief to citizens in the north of the country who are supplied virtually.
