Fatigue, hair loss and dizziness can be caused by iron deficiency. Perhaps it’s all about the wrong diet, says general practitioner Irina Andreeva, writes MedicForum.
She explained that iron plays an important role in cell formation and cellular respiration – by inhaling oxygen, hemoglobin is bound with the help of iron and distributed through the blood throughout the body, generating energy in the cells. Iron deficiency can be recognized by symptoms such as pallor, fatigue, diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, lack of energy, decreased hair growth, and brittle nails. At the same time, women suffer from iron deficiency more often.
The nutritionist believes that changing your diet can improve the situation. She named pest products that inhibit the absorption of iron in the body. The list includes black tea and coffee, which contain plant tannins that interfere with the absorption of iron from food, whole grain and soy products, corn and rice, which contain phytic acid – they form compounds with iron, reducing its absorption in the body. Cocoa, chocolate and spinach also “steal iron” – they contain oxalate, which limits the absorption of iron in the intestines.
