The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the deadline for extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) late last week.

Migrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua and Sudan had until Sunday, September 10, 2023 to re-enroll in the program and keep their immigration benefits.

Now Noticias Telemundo is expanding its review: with this 18-month extension, the deadline for El Salvador, for example, becomes March 9, 2025.

According to the Information Space, officials have clarified that the change is not an extension of the duration of TPS, nor are there any changes regarding who can benefit from the program.

Immigrants from the six countries mentioned have a maximum of 18 months, instead of 60 days, to apply for protection that protects them from deportation.

What is TPS and how can you apply for it?
