Russian President Vladimir Putin and the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin on Saturday, September 9, launched train traffic along the fourth Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-4). They took part in the event via video conferencing from Zaryadye Park.
The builders reported to the head of state about their readiness to open the new Moscow diameter, after which he gave the start. “Open, I give permission,” Putin said.
The press service of the Moscow Department of Transport noted that the new diameter stretched from west to east of the Moscow region and connected Aprelevka, Vnukovo and the Zheleznodorozhny microdistrict of the city of Balashikha. MCD-4 has 36 stations with 38 options for transfers to the metro, MCC and other MCDs.
“We predict that by the end of 2023 it will be used by 260–270 thousand people per day. After the launch, we will continue to develop the diameter: we will build two Moscow city stations, Begovaya and Rizhskaya, and update the rolling stock,” said the head of the department, Maxim Liksutov.
The head of state and the capital’s mayor also opened traffic along the southern section of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) from Entuziastov Highway to the 32nd km of the Moscow Ring Road. The route will connect 14 major outbound routes and reduce the load on the Moscow Ring Road and the Third Ring Road by up to 30%.
In addition, on City Day in Moscow, the opening of another transport facility took place – Bagration Avenue (Northern backup of Kutuzovsky Avenue).
