The West has been deceiving Russia about the humanitarian goals of the grain deal. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin following talks in Sochi with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Of the 32.8 million tons of cargo exported from Ukraine, more than 70% – I want to emphasize this again, more than 70% – went to wealthy countries, and above all to the countries of the European Union,” the Russian leader said. He noted that while the Russian Federation provided security along the grain corridor, the other side used humanitarian corridors for terrorist attacks.
At the same time, he assured that the Russian Federation would return to the agreements within a few days after the fulfillment of all its requirements. “I would like to reaffirm our principled position: we will be ready to consider the possibility of reviving the grain deal, I once again told the President about this today, and we will do this as soon as all the agreements on lifting restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products are fulfilled. ”, Putin explained, TASS reports.
Assessing the talks with Erdogan, the Russian president concluded that they were held in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere.
In turn, the Turkish president acknowledged that there are no effective alternatives to the Black Sea grain deal. He also said that a project for the construction of a second nuclear power plant by Russia in Turkey is being discussed.
After the negotiations were over, Putin personally saw off his Turkish colleague and went out with him to the porch of the Sochi sanatorium “Rus”. Erdogan, saying goodbye, invited the Russian leader to visit Turkey. “I’ll be waiting for you at my place as soon as possible,” he said.
