Argentine Gustavo Alfaro has not made a decision on his non-continuation in the national team since his departure from the technical leadership of Ecuador in November last year.

In January of this year, the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) announced that the albiceleste would not follow the process, after which the coach remained silent.

During an interview with a television channel in his country, Alfaro revealed the details of what happened and the debts owed by the FEF to him and his coaching staff.

The strategist indicated that the relationship with the players was on good terms, however, he believes that there was no intention from Ecuafútbol to continue the process.

“It ended well with the players and the country, but unfortunately no one could agree to continue. There were two reasons: one concrete and real, which is that between the position of paying and continuing and the position of not paying, they chose the latter,” he said.

“The second reason is more subjective, and my feeling is that they didn’t want me to continue, and that was the way they achieved it. They could calmly tell me ‘we’ve come this far’ and I would be very grateful to them”, he added in an interview with TyC Sports.

In this context, the coach revealed that before Qatar 2022, he and his coaching staff were in debt for four months.

“They didn’t pay us at that stage, they owed us four months before the World Cup. They paid the rewards to the players and we didn’t. That’s when it was realized that the decision had already been made, it was obvious that it was coming,” he concluded. (D)
