Guillermo Lasso has been in power for less than three months. He shortened the term he was elected to by signing the death cross and, true to his speech, declared August 28 as National Values Day this week.
Certainly, the promotion of values and ethics is necessary in the world.
After the adoption of the Regulation, the Government specified that the Ministries of Education and Economic and Social Inclusion (MINISTERSTVO) will establish mechanisms for the promotion of ethical values in society.
President Guillermo Lasso establishes the Day of National Values
For some time, the Academy advocated for the return of subjects such as Civic Education and Ethics to the curriculum. In 2022, the return of these materials was announced as part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy. However, it is still a plan on paper.
With the establishment of a national day of values, it would be good if these subjects were determined, at least in the Sierra and Amazonía cycle, where classes have just started, so that later it would be extended to the coast.
In the private sector, there are schools that have subjects such as Life Training, Life Project and Values in their networks. They are not a requirement of the Ministry of Education, but a private initiative.
This is the ballot for the second round in Ecuador
Apart from the question of whether it was a priority to establish a new national day of celebration, it is necessary to look for mechanisms that increase the awareness and practice of human and civic values. Corruption, crime and bad habits have their cradle precisely in a life deprived of value.
In Argentina, there is also a day of remembrance for human values. It is July 29, and it was founded in 2003 with the aim of regulating behavior, improving moral and spiritual dignity. After the signing of the decree in Ecuador, an inter-institutional agreement will be issued so that different public institutions promote activities and campaigns aimed at recovery and strengthening of values. That the training materializes will be a really important part of the presidential decree. (OR)
