With the presence of dozens of citizens, one of the Christmas trees considered one of the largest in the country was lit in Cuenca last Sunday night.

Surrounded by ornaments alluding to the festivity, the 35-meter-tall tree with a 20-meter diameter base is covered with 22,000 programmable LED-type light points, which allow visitors to enjoy various lighting games and scenes that will be renewed. weekly.

30 people worked for the assembly of this mechanical and electrical project.

Last Sunday’s meeting began at 6:30 p.m. and was attended by the Archbishop of Cuenca, Marcos Pérez, who gave a brief speech in which he stressed that in the midst of the lights, which are considered a symbol of faith, it begins the Christmas season in town. At the end of his intervention, the religious gave a prayer and blessed the day.

Minutes later, Mayor Pedro Palacios, accompanied by his wife, Yadira Palacios, stressed the value of the family and the faith of the people from Cuenca in the development of society.

He thanked the citizens for facing the health crisis, keeping a balance between caring for life and health and economic reactivation, an aspect that is considered to install the tree in different areas each year, as this type of space invigorates its environment.

At the end of his speech, together with his family and other authorities, he made the countdown that was accompanied by those present to give way to the lighting of the largest tree in Ecuador.

This year the tree is accompanied by a Christmas circuit around it. As a family, you can walk a path illuminated by multicolored flowers and at each step you can see allegories of different kinds, such as a giant gift, a four-meter-high light bulb, angels of light, fish and rabbits, until ending at the foot of the giant birth.

One aspect that Councilor Omar Álvarez highlighted is that with this activity not only is the faith of people revived in already difficult times such as the pandemic, but also the economy, due to the presence of merchants who sell items related to the season, such as hats, lights, among others.

The lights of this Christmas theme park turn on at 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday.

In Machala

On December 12, another giant Christmas tree will be illuminated inside the Zoila Ugarte de Landívar urban park.

This year, the structure will reach 36 meters in height, according to those in charge of the installation work that began last Sunday. (I)
