Fourteen tons of hazardous waste and special waste from the Santa Cruz de Galapagos island were transferred, on November 21, to Guayaquil for proper final disposal. This initiative is part of the National Chemical Management Program administered by the United Nations Development Program in Ecuador (UNDP) and has the support of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (Maate) and the local municipality.

El Maate hired an environmental manager, who collected, packed, labeled, transported and stored said waste in order to later make the final disposal of the collected material.
