The Vice President of the Republic, Alfredo Borrero, tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from his visit to the national soccer team in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

This was announced by the Vice Presidency on the morning of this Thursday, November 24 in a statement.

Borrero traveled to the opening of the Qatar 2022 World Cup to accompany the Tri and visit officials, authorities and hospitals in that country. He was representing President Guillermo Lasso, who remained in the country for leading activities in favor of security.

He arrived yesterday and was subjected to the PCR test as a control and prevention measure for COVID-19 in Ecuador; After several hours, the laboratory confirmed that he tested positive, he was infected with the virus.

However, the Vice Presidency explained that there are no signs of seriousness, but that he will maintain medical rest and the respective quarantine for his speedy recovery and avoid new infections in his environment.

Borrero made several tours in Qatar, met with the selected teams and the technical director Gustavo Alfaro after the opening match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He also had other protocol visits and also in the context of health.

The vice president took the opportunity to get to know the Qatar Foundation’s Sidra Medicine Hospital, a specialized care center for women and children, recognized for its lines of biomedical research on diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, among other preventable pathologies.
