This, according to the report of the Geophysical Institute (IG), of the National Polytechnic School. This body reported that the surface trend is upward.

This elevation is more relevant due to its proximity to populated areas of the country, for example, the city of Latacunga, located about 15 kilometers from the Cotopaxi National Park.

From the afternoon of Wednesday, November 23, the colossus began to emit a column of ash from 200 to 300 meters in an easterly direction. In addition, at night a new emission was recorded that reached 1,000 meters above the level of the crater.

This, together with today’s emissions, has covered the glacier on the north-eastern flank with a layer of ash, it said.

Exactly one month ago, on October 23, the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE) declared a yellow alert for the area of influence of the Cotopaxi volcano.

Since that date, experts have been constantly monitoring the signals emitted by this volcano located in the inter-Andean alley of Ecuador. (YO)
