Finnish court extended the term of arrest of a Russian detained at the request of Ukraine

The county court of the Finnish region Eastern Uusimaa decided to extend the detention of a 36-year-old Russian detained at the request of Ukraine, TASS reports citing Finnish media.

The alleged crimes for which he was put on the wanted list allegedly took place in eastern Ukraine in 2014 and 2015. The man denies doing so. The suspect attended the court hearing via video link.

According to the court, earlier the man’s name was Yan Petrovsky, and now he is named Vojislav Torden, he is a Russian citizen. The suspect was included in the sanctions list of the EU and the US Treasury, according to which he served as the leader and commander of the Russian military group Rusich. The Ukrainian side requested his extradition.

According to representatives of the Russian embassy, ​​Russian diplomats are in contact with a lawyer and relatives of a Russian detained in Finland at the request of Ukraine. According to them, on August 23, Finnish law enforcement agencies confirmed the “detention of a Russian citizen at the request of the Ukrainian authorities.” The embassy clarified that on August 23, “a request was sent to the Finnish side to hold a meeting with a Russian citizen,” but “there has not yet been a response.”
