A declaration was adopted following the BRICS summit in Johannesburg. The document is published on the official website of the organization.

The declaration noted that the UN plays a central role in the international system, but needs to be reformed, including the need to change the Security Council – “to make it more democratic, representative and efficient”, as well as to increase the representation of developing countries in its composition. It was also noted that developing countries should take a more active part in international organizations.
The text notes that the organization is concerned about conflicts in the world and stands for their peaceful resolution.
In addition, it was emphasized that the BRICS countries stand for a commitment to deepening economic cooperation and coordination of macroeconomic policies, support a fair trading system based on the WTO, advocate the use of national currencies in international trade and between the countries of the group, are committed to strengthening cooperation in the field of agriculture to strengthen food security. The leaders of the BRICS countries also called on the space agencies of the member states of the organization to continue to increase the level of cooperation in the field of satellite data exchange.
They also fully supported the Russian presidency in 2024 and the holding of the BRICS summit in Kazan. In addition, the foreign ministers of the alliance member countries, as follows from the document, were instructed to prepare a list of potential partner countries for the next summit.
It is emphasized that BRICS will be expanded. Six new countries will be invited to the organization – Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Full participation of new countries will begin on January 1, 2024.
At the same time, the admission of new members is the first phase of the expansion of the Five, other phases will follow, the head of South Africa added.
The BRICS summit takes place in Johannesburg on August 22-24. The leaders of China, India, Brazil and South Africa take part in it, Russia is represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
