Caffeine helps burn fat. This conclusion was made by the experts of the Swedish Karolinska Institute, writes the journal BMC Medicine.
Scientists have done a study. They studied the genetic data of about 10,000 people, primarily looking at genes associated with the rate of breakdown of caffeine found in coffee and tea.
It turned out that there is a relationship between the level of caffeine in the blood and the fat content in the body. So, in study participants with a mutation in the CYP1A2 and AHR genes, a slower process of breaking down caffeine was observed. As a result, it stayed in the blood longer, creating an increased concentration, which was associated with less body fat and lower body weight.
According to experts, the effect of weight loss is achieved due to the effect of caffeine on increased thermogenesis (heat production) and fat oxidation, which gives an acceleration of metabolism. The scientists also called a decrease in blood sugar levels and the risk of developing type II diabetes as a consequence of caffeine consumption. However, the study did not mention the long-term effects of high doses of caffeine, excerpts from the material were cited by planet-today.ru.
