Western countries are working on options for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, but neither Moscow nor Kyiv are satisfied with their conditions. The Wall Street Journal writes about it.
According to media reports, the peace plans do not take into account the goal of Ukraine to return the lost regions – Crimea, Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. At the same time, in the view of Western partners, this goal still has a perspective, but a distant one – because of their fears of “costs and risks” in achieving it. Doubts about the return of territories to Kyiv are expressed by the United States and Germany, the newspaper writes.
At the same time, the newspaper notes, the initiatives of the West do not suit the Russian side either, since they do not recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over the territories lost by Ukraine, and also do not mention the neutral status of Ukraine.
The text also emphasizes that Western countries generally do not tell Ukraine when to start negotiations and what conditions Kyiv should set.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared its readiness to conduct a dialogue with the West on the issue of Ukraine.
