In order to protect and conserve 207 hectares of the buffer zone of the Sangay National Park and the Llanganates National Park, the government of Guillermo Lasso declared a new Forest and Protective Vegetation to Hacienda Guamag, at kilometer 6 of the Baños-Puyo road .
The area is located in the Ulba parish, Baños de Agua Santa canton, Tungurahua province.
In the new protective forest there is a farm, where sustainable tourism activities are carried out: lodging, trails that allow you to know the richness of the area, a restaurant where food grown in the area is consumed, sports fields, a tarabita and several other attractions. reported the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.
“Guamag is an example of conservation, they are part of the country’s ecological transition, promoting ecotourism, responsible agriculture, green production and today, thanks to the hard work of their owners, they are part of that almost 14% of other forms of conservation that has the Ecuador. We have the firm commitment to continue conserving our ecosystems and to support these initiatives because the development of a green and resilient economy is possible, ”said Vice Minister Bianca Dáger, who presided over the official declaration ceremony.
María del Carmen Luna de Acosta, owner of the farm, stated: “It has been a long road, but it is worth all the effort made, especially for those twelve spectacled bears that live in the upper part and that thanks to the commitment of the Ministry and with the support of an international organization a continuous monitoring plan will be carried out. This is an achievement that fills us with pride. We have shown that we can all contribute to caring for the environment ”.
