Russia is “a gas station whose owner has an atomic bomb.” This statement was made by EU Foreign Affairs Representative Josep Borrell in an interview with El Pais newspaper.
He stressed that the Russian economy is too small compared to the economies of real geopolitical players.
According to Borrell, unlike Moscow, Beijing is a “real geopolitical player” with which there are slight disagreements today.
He also added that Europe is not interested in contributing to the polarization of the international system, which leads to a bipolar world. Borrell also acknowledged that the EU is close to the US, but this does not mean that Europe does not have its own interests.
Earlier, the head of Eurodiplomacy noted that Russia, with its cheap grain, is trying to make developing countries dependent. “While the world is dealing with supply disruptions and rising prices, Russia is now turning to vulnerable countries with bilateral offers to supply grain at reduced prices,” Borrell said.
